2019-2020 Youth Advocacy Council Application

#WeDontPuff is a youth anti-tobacco initiative of the Shelby County Health Department which combines instruction, marketing and social media messages to encourage Shelby County youth to live a healthy lifestyle that does not include the use of tobacco or nicotine products. 

#WeDontPuff is a declaration that tobacco and nicotine products have no place in their lives and are not welcomed in their presence. 

  • 88% of adult smokers started before age 18, usually as young as 13 or 14, and 99% before age 26.
  • Research shows adolescents can become addicted to nicotine in as little as a few weeks by taking just a few puffs. 
  • Each day in the United States, more than 3,800 youth aged 18 years or younger smoke their first cigarette, and an additional 2,100 youth and young adults become daily cigarette smokers.
